Hi, I'm a newbie, pls help.

I have installed Nvidia Geforce 2 ti 64mb card, did a clean install but 3d games always hang my system after about 2-3 mins of gameplay. I've already tried to change my bios settings, change driver (2185, 2188, 2890, 3140) but no result. Sometimes the system even hang when I'm surfing the internet. Do I need to flash my bios? My system is as follows:-

Bios V4.51PG
Winbond B29C020C-90B
09/21/1999-693-596B-8671-2A6LGV3DC-00
Chipset VIA VT82C596B
MB 440BX/ZX/VIA@ VT82C693/693A

Pentium 3-700 (Slot 1)
Win 98SE
128MB Memory
1 AGP slot (VER 2.0, 1x/2x mode supported)
20GB Harddisk
power 250watts
nvidia tnt2 m64
Directx 8.1

I've since taken out the card and put back my old tnt2 card.
Pls help. Thanks.

- The power supply might be insufficient.
- The VGA processor might have insufficient cooling.
- The VGA memory might be faulty.
- AGP 2x mode might not be properly supported.
- etc.

Try DirectX 9 and see if it helps. I've tried it a couple of days ago and it has done wonders for me (Win2K+ATi Rage Fury).

Don't forget to get recent VIA 4in1 drivers from www.viaarena.com
Try to disable AGP2x in Bios

It should not be a power supply issue unles it's damaged somehow or a very cheap and bad one
Do you have the option for monitoring PSU voltages and/or CPU temps ? > either in Bios or with Speedfan or other programs

Thans for the reply guys.

I'm going to get the VIA 4IN1 as you suggested.
I did try to disable it but the problem still persisted.
I don' t know if I have any programs that you mention for monitoring
the voltage.

It will be worth you going to the manufacturer's Web site and looking for an AGP driver. Your motherboard may not have this driver installed and if not you will experience all sorts of problems, freezing up and programmes terminating unexpectedly.
