Dip switches on VT8501 VT82c686A (sony vaio F801) WTF ?

On the underbelly, wedged between the Ram ports, there is a bank of 8 dip switches...i found them whilst trying to locate a bios recovery mode jumper... does anyone know:

A. what the hell do these switches control ?

B. how can i force this motherboard into bios recovery mode ?
