I have an older pc with a MicroStar MS-6163 motherboard.
The current BIOS is Award v4.51PG with the following date code 10/20/1998-i440BX-W977-2A69KM4KC-00. The original harddrive is only 8.4GB but I want to update the BIOS so I can install a larger hardrive. I am also planning to install Ubuntu as my OS and it requires a BIOS date from 2000 or later. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan

Please post the full Bios ID, that includes the Bios OEM message shown just below the Award Logo in the upper left corner (when you see the Bios-ID you posted on the bottom line).

It may look like this:
W6163MJ V2.5 111199
or this:
W6163IMJ V5.0 121399

And have a look at your board, the MS-6163 came in several revisions.

The additional line of coding is W6163MJ V3.0 062599

In looking closer at the board itself, near where the code MS6163 is printed there is a V2 followed by N1996. Would this mean that I have version 2 of the board possibly made in 1996?

Thanks.

MS-6163 Rev 2.0 with Intel chipset should be MS-6163 Pro

Thanks for the link. How do I proced once I download the file? Would I run it from Windows and let it self install? Or do I need to copy it to a floppy to creat a boot disk?
