I have a presario v2000, and the hard drive disappears in bios. I tried a different hard drive and it does the same thing, after a hard reset it will detect the hard drive and then when I try to reinstall windows (xp) it will give a bsod and the hd will be gone????. Not sure what to do, any info would be great!!!!!!

Is there any harddrive that works in this machine at all?
if you have one with a stable windows install you may want to flash the latest bios:

if not it's time to bring it to a HP/Compaq service center. Oh and some of these have a bad battery pack, there's a recall program for it.
