It's not so easy to describe because it's not on my computer.
The disk is a 30gb and was running normaly.
The disk crash and the owner fdisk and format the disk. But the size reported by the bios and fdisk is only 4gb now.
Maybe the MBR is bad after a virus infection.
I ask him to delete all partition, restart and recreate one partition.
But it's allready only 4gb in bios detection, fdisk and Partition Magic too.
What could affect bios size recognition of the disk (in the same computer where it was running ok before)?

I've seen a virus do strange stuff to HDD size. Get a McAfee boot disk and scan it.
Flash your BIOS at your own risk.

It's was no more virus because of the fdisk and format but disk parameters were set to manual and with wrong parameter.
After setting disk parameter to Auto, the disk size come back normaly.
