I have a compaq presario 5461 and have recently changed from windows 98 to windows 2000. When I tried to install my printer and scanner I am told that the ports could not be found. Is this a bios problem? And how can I rectify this problem. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I can't get my parallel port scanner to work under Windows 2000. The driver "can't find the port". The scanner works fine on either the W95 or the W98 machine as long as I leave the port in standard (SPP, not ECP or EPP) mode. Some later OSes get smart and try to use the additional capabilities of the port; this confuses the driver.

What is telling you that the port can't be found for the printer ? I would have thought that Plug and Play would find it, though you might then have to install the W2K drivers for it.
