I installed a new WD HDD in my pentium II PC but the disk was not recognized. How do I proceed? My BIOS details are as follows:

Hello Edwin,
The board looks very much the same, where could I find the number you mention. The label on the BIOS chip shows pci/pnp 686 144949918. Is this helpfull?

In the upper left corner I can only find the number You asked before: 35 8839 01. Could it be on the backside of the board?

No it is the BXA839D allright.
Now get this file:
http://www.pcpartner.com/bios_zip/p829-2m.zip
unpack, read the note.txt and flash the appropriate bios for your board depending on the clock gen IC.
Either one supports harddisks up to 128GB.
