I installed a new WD HDD in my pentium II PC but the disk was not recognized. How do I proceed? My BIOS details are as follows:
BIOS Type: Award
BIOS Date: 10/08/98
BIOS ID String: 10/08/1998-I440BX-ITE867-2A69KV31C-00
OEM Signon: BIOS-I-2M (81008)
Chipset: INTEL 440BX/ZX REV 2
Super I/O: ITE 8671 REV 1 FOUND AT PORT 279H

Check board surface for 35-8xxx-xx number and reply with that.

The number on the motherboard is: 35 8839 01.

Hello Edwin,

The board looks very much the same, where could I find the number you mention. The label on the BIOS chip shows pci/pnp 686 144949918. Is this helpfull?

With board held as shown in the picture, upper left corner. About 1.5mm high letters.

In the upper left corner I can only find the number You asked before: 35 8839 01. Could it be on the backside of the board?

No it is the BXA839D allright.

Now get this file:
http://www.pcpartner.com/bios_zip/p829-2m.zip

unpack, read the note.txt and flash the appropriate bios for your board depending on the clock gen IC.

Either one supports harddisks up to 128GB.
