Asus PTGD2-VX (Sony oem) - BIOS change or upgrade suggestion

I have a Vaio desktop with a locked BIOS. I would love to unlock the BIOS so that I can change my memory latency settings, FSB and core voltage.

Sony don't want me to do that. Their customer support is appauling - they wouldn't even tell me when their next BIOS update is due.

Is there any BIOS out there that will work with my mobo and enable me to tweak the memory, fsb and voltage settings.

My current BIOS is:

63-0300-000040-00101111-111604-I915

Nov 16th 2005 Build
Build Tag: A0014001

Your board could be a VGC-RA60/RA70

After loading the BIOS-file in AMIBCP for Windows, I can see there are Latency-Settings and more chipset-specific settings....all available for the user.
->no hidden Menus.

Maybe you have to try the BIOS-Update.

My Sony is a VGC RA104, purchased in the UK. Looks like the board is the same as the RA60/61 &RA70/71

I have the current BIOS update (version 1003) provided by sony-europe at www.vaio-link.com.

Believe me - there are no options in the BIOS to tweak anything: memory, FSB, voltage...nothing.

In AMIBPCP for Windows I can see there are many viewable switches for Memory and FSB-Settings.

I don't know how you're managing to view those switches, because they just aren't there when you access the BIOS from my computer (from boot, not using a BIOS modding prog)

I have that exact BIOS that is highlighted and I can be 100% sure when I tell you that those features are simply not accessible. Perhaps the BIOS has them, but when using my computer you can not access them.

How is this possible, since I do believe what you're telling me - but I also know that, practically, I can not change the settings.

Beacause of AMIBCP for Windows (AMIBCP8) is just a beta -release, so it could be possible that it shows a wrong state of hidden/unhidden BIOS-settings,menus,switches....

Will downloading the tool help me to modify my own BIOS so that I can access the settings I want to access?

Would you reccommend doing that since I have absolutely no experience in such matters?

Is there another BIOS I can use, or something else I can do to access the
memory / fsb / voltage settings?

Guess I'm stuck with this oem piece of crap. Well, it's not crap, but I can't overclock it.

That'll teach me to build my own system next time!
