I'm trying to up grade the ram on a Compaq Presario 7470 it originally has a 64 meg stick. It has an extra slot for a upgrade so I put a 128 meg pc100 kingston value ram in.Then the problems began

1.computer wouldn't boot not even in safe mode,so i preformed a recovery with the recovery disks.
2.still had trouble booting so i removed the 128 meg ram computer did a full boot.
3.I went to compaq site (now HP) and did a bios upgrade to version 686s4 release date 07 2000(the most recent bios)also upgraded display,on board video drivers at the same site.
3.reinstalled the 128 meg ram and upon boot it did a memory check a warning appeared saying Incorrect memory size 148 meg F1 to boot or F10 to enter setup?
4.Well the BIOS setup page is very limited but does show the correct memory size 198 MEG.
5.upon repeated boot attempts the same warning appears as in step 3.
Is there a fix or workaround for this?
System Specs:WIN 98 SE
UPdated all drivers to current rev.
DID clear C-MOS.Tried switching memory locations this showed only 32 MEGS of RAM

HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS?ANY HELP WILL BE GREATLY APPREACIATED.
Thanks,
