The hard drive I am trying to use with the (very) old box is a 13GB Western Digital, WD136BA. The BIOS, AMIBIOS, only sees the hdd as 8GB, then when I try and boot up, The BIOS hangs once it POST's to the hdd, and won't go on from there.

Do I need a newer BIOS that supports larger drives?
Also, If you need any more info just ask.

-Thanks for all of your replies.

Does the manufacturer have a newer BIOS for this board. If so, hopefully it will increase HDD support to at least 32GB.

If the manufacturer does not have a BIOS that does this, this means you are still dealing with the previous limitation, the 8GB bug, and generally this cannot be patched.

Do you know the manufactuer of this board?

here's the BIOS id:
51-1130-001223-00111111-071595-82430VX-F
Where is the best place to check for BIOS updates?

After working out how to get to the BIOS images section of BIOSTAR's web site, I located the 8500TVX but NOT the 8500TVX-A, so there may or may not be a difference.

Before proceeding any further, I would ask if one of the moderator's can verify the board's identity for you and advise whether the 8500TVX BIOS image on BIOSTAR's web site is the correct one for your board.

What's printed onto the board ?
-> 8500TVX or 8500TVX-A ?

Biostar has TVX Bios here:
http://www.biostar.com.tw/support/bios/ ... el=8500TVX
The first version is indicated as for UMC I/O chipset only - maybe the -A is the same board but with different I/O ?

What did the Unicore BiosAgent say about I/O chipset ?
