Hello, I have a new 80GB WD drive and it is not recognized by my bios.

Here are some details:

Code: Select all

BIOS ID:	03/19/98-i440LX-ITE8679-2A69JH2BC
OEM Sign-On:	(637PWIQ1) Intel i440LX PCIset(TM)
BIOS Date:	03/19/98
BIOS Type:	Award
Chipset:	Intel 440EX/LX rev 3
Super I/O:	Unknown
OS:	Win98
BIOS ROM Socket:	Unknown
BIOS ROM Size:	Unknown
Memory Installed:	255 MB
Memory Max:	Unknown
CPU:	Pentium® II (0.25 µm) 413 MHz
I found a topic already on this board regarding a similar issue with the 637A. I tried the image suggested there, and it seemed to work ok despite being for the wrong model, but I have had issues with it being unstable. Can someone provie an image specifically for the P model?

Edit: Also, I have read about a problem where udma mode will select a speed higher than my MB can support. Is it possible/is anyone willing to patch that also? I'm not too informed about this mode, but I assume that it would be much faster than if it were disabled.

Thanks in advance.

Latest Bios is here:
ftp://ftp.shuttle.com/BIOS/637/637WIQ05.ZIP

Acording to the Bios release notes the UDMA bug is already patched.

If the 80GB is not detected I'll patch this Bios for you but I'm not at home so it may take until tomorrow.

Thanks for the reply :-)

Unfortunately, that bios still stops when trying to detect my new HD. This is really the more important issue compared to udma.

Do you know the difference between the 637 and 637P, btw? What problems can there be for not using the bios designed for the P model?

Could you please patch this bios instead of that one? See here for details.

Thank you for your effort.

Cheers, mate! You are a lifesaver, ajzchips. :-)

My HD was detected, and everything works properly, but the size display was incorrect for it. I gather this is not a serious issue, however.

Thanks again!

Ajzchips, I was working on a Shuttle Hot-637 Pentium II (233 MHz) motherboard (not a Shuttle Hot-637P or Hot-637A), and it would not detect a new 80GB Hitachi hard drive. Although I was uncertain whether or not it would work properly for a straight Hot-637 board (again, not Hot-637A or Hot-637P), I decided to flash the bios using your patch of the 637wiq06 bios.

I want to report that everything worked like a charm. This patch definitely works for a straight Hot-637 board. The 80GB drive was recognized correctly by your patched version of the bios and there were no further problems. Thanks!
