I am having a terrible time attempting to repair this Sony Vaio VGN-FS980. The System Recovery Discs will not work because the model # (Machine Name) is incorrect in the Bios. It is stating that the machine is a VGN-FS920, causing me all sorts of grief. I have installed all of the updates for the FS-980 that I could find, and the BIOS has been flashed to its most recent update. If anyone could help me with the matter and give me some info on how to change the model number in the bios, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!

This seems like some sort of quirk only Sony can help you fix. I've never seen this before.

This DMI information is stored in the security EProm on the motherboard. It's not stored in the BIOS code. Sony techs do have a DMI writing utility that they use at the repair depot.
Thats the extent of Sony's involvment of component level service when it comes to DMI and BIOS issues.
