Hello!

I am looking for a new Chicony MP-995 (notebook) BIOS. The one I have now (1.17) doesn't seem to support ACPI couse Win2k won't shutdown and WinXP won't install at all.

Sincerly,

What's your BIOS ID string?

Case 1:
I found that NEC sold that laptop too.
http://necpc.nec.com.tw/download/download.asp
It's V 1.11 and its string is:
09/16/1999-BANISTER-2A69NC2AC-00
And it includes ACPI support, although the BIOS entry is hidden to the end-user. Perhaps the ACPI isn't 100% compliant.

Case 2:
A Russian site.
http://www.v-service.ru/FTP_Files/Noteb ... 5/1171.zip
It's V 1.17.1 and its string is:
04/21/2000-BANISTER-2A69NC2AC-00
Now ACPI isn't a hidden feature, so you can activate/deactivate it as you please.

Case 3: (I believe your same release)
A Finnish site. (includes XP drivers!)
http://www.databest.fi/mp995dwn.htm
It's V 1.17
02/11/2000-BANISTER-2A69NC2AC-00
ACPI is also a hidden feature here, and perhaps isn't 100% compliant.

I believe CASE 2 will suit you best, and possibly ACPI works!

BTW, here's some interesting info: http://www.orphanlaptops.com/mp995.htm

My BIOS ID string was 02/11/2000-BANISTER-2A69NC2AC-00 and the case #2 worked just fine. Now I am running Win2k and are able to shutdown the computer in the right way! Thanks a million!

Now if I could only find a update for my Teac CD-224E CD-ROM so I can run 80 mins CD. I found an update in another posting in the forum but I had a "too old hardware revision" (1.5A, the newest update was like 8.0M).

I found this http://wwss1pro.compaq.com/support/refe ... 1.xml&dt=3 - but it can easily kill the drive.

Thanks! But it seems that my CD-ROM is too old. Couse it complains that my "hardware revision" to old when I try to update. Maybe I'll have to replace the unit with another to get 80 mins and CD-RWs to function.

The "hardware revision" message might just mean one of three things:
a) Your CD-ROM is equipped with a non-flashable EPROM, so there's no way to update it (very probable)
b) You might have to flash an intermediate firmware release to then support the flashing routines the most recent ones require (unlikely)
c) As you said, your CD-ROM is old, and there's absolutely nothing it'd benefit from a BIOS update. (ouch!).

Hi!

I am searching for a Chicony MP-982 (ACER based notebook) BIOS.
I have BIOS V3.2 (CHIA1000-M18-991001-R01-A3 C7 EN V1.27).
Win 2K and XP reports ACPI errors in system event log, and sometimes fails to start and shutdown correctly.
