Hi, i had given to me a broken Vaio PCG-K415B.
I have no history on the laptop, it had a broken power socket so this was replaced and now i can get into the bios. However any further than that it shuts off.
It came without a hard drive so up till this point i have been trying to boot live disks e.g. linux etc
It begins to boot then shuts off.
I had a spare compatable CPU so tried this and i get the same problem so it is not that, i have tried using just 1 ram stick and swapping the two ports incase of a bad connection with no joy.
I'm assuming its a mobo problem, can anyone suggest anything else i could do?
Thanks

You basically tried everything you can replace yourself to make sure it is not one of the other parts. The only thing I can think of is both memory sticks are bad, did you try one from a different machine?
And try a fresh CMOS battery. If that doesn't help, yes the motherboard is dead.
