I'm running win2K. It has 2 hard drive
master: IBM 60gig
slave: Western Digital 80gig.
My computer only recognize 9gig on the Western Digital. Do I need to upgrade my BIOS? Anyone know how? Should I download Award Flasher v7.07? can't look for it. Dead link
Here is the info
Program: Unicore BIOS Agent Version 1.8
BIOS Date: 04/27/01
BIOS Type: Award Modular BIOS v6.00PG
BIOS ID: 04/27/2001-8365-686B-6A6LMM49C
BIOS Eval: W6340MS V4.2 042701 16:17:06
Chipset: VIA 82C305 rev 129
Superio: VIA 686 rev 64 found at port 7h
80GB: 04/27/2001-8365-686B-6A6LMM49C
That BIOS of yours is quite recent. It should support large HDDs.
Anyway, your motherboard seems to be a Microstar MS-6340.
Check: http://www.msi.com.tw
Flashing instructions: check our "Collected Wisdom" section.

Do you see 9GB in FDISK and full HDD capacity in BIOS? That's a bug in Windows 98 FDISK. You need to download updated version from Microsoft.
Patched and tested BIOSes are at http://wims.rainbow-software.org
UniFlash - Flash anything anywhere

..which may use WIn98 FDISK when preparing the disk for installation, but once you're running W2K surely it should be OK ?myBS wrote:I'm running win2K.

Thank you all for reply.
What should I download?
http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/b ... hives&ID=4
BIOS doesn't have the right capacity.
BIOS in "Auto" mode and LBA enables. I try to change to CHS and change the cylinder and head. Instruction says
Cyl : 1023
head: 16
Not help at all.

Please have a look onto your mainboard for MS-6340 Rev xxx to be sure you have the correct Bios .
Is your WD HDD connected as single drive on one cable ? > then remove Master jumper or use Cable Select/CS as WD HDD don't like a Master jumper if single drive .
Tried a different cable ?
Tried to connect as slave behind your other HDD ?
If all this does not work get WD diagnostic Software and test the drive .

Can I get this? I don't see my version. It's MS 6340 v3, I'm looking for MS 6340 v1

Yep, I upgraded to version 4.7
Change cable on primary and secondary drive. Jumper looked fine.
Run the diagnostics, it said my BIOS doesn't support full capacity!!!!!!
In BIOS, it doesn't recognize full capacity!!!! (only 31.50gig)
do you know why?
Thank you for your help.

I format my second drive as FAT32. Win2K won't load anymore. I can't get into windows.
When it start up, it said that my primary slave is my CDR and my secondary slave is Western digital. Is that sound right?
I thought the old drive is disk0 and new drive is disk1.
This is what I assume
Old drive: IBM 60GB, NTFS, disk0.
New drive: Western Digital, FAT32, disk1.
any suggestion?

IIRC you can't have a single partition bigger than 32 GB with FAT32 - you must go to NTFS.

So your Bios recognizes now 32GB out of the 80 ? > look for a 32GB limitation jumper .
The Bios supports drives larger than 128GB
Remenber Win2K supports max Fat32 size of 32GB - better use NTFS for the drive .
You have the IBM as primary master and the CDR as slave behind ?
The WD is on Secondary without any other device or with a CD or DVD ?
Without any device remove master or Slave jumper and you'll get it as Master - if CD or DVD on Secondary run you HDD as Master nd CD/DVD as Slave .
If using 80wire UDMA100 cable please connect blue end to mainboard and black end to master device to avoid additional problems .

Yes, I'm using 80wire UDMA100 cable, connected blue end to mainboard, black end to master device (IBM) and slave into secondary device (Western Digital).
Yes, I have the IBM as primary master and the Western Digital as slave behind.
From the motherboard, one cable goes into CDROM, one goes into master device (IBM) and slave into secondary device (Western Digital).
I'm using EZ-BIOS disket that come with the hard drive. Format option: FAT32 OR 16. I go with FAT32.
Can't change partition size. I have to go with 60GB drive and partition 2 40BG on Western Digital. I'm installing Win2K now, I should be able to format that when I get into Windows; using "Computer Mgm", right?
any suggestion?

I suggest not to use the EZ-Bios Floppy - it might install a drive Overlay Software that is not needed as your Bios supports full capacity .
First you have to get your Bios recognize full 80GB of your HDD - is this OK ?
Then your Win2K CD should be bootable - enter Bios and select CDROM as first boot device - you should get options to partition your HDD from the Setup menu in some way .
Do not use FAT32 unless you plan to install another OS like Win9x .
