My processor died (on an MSI TurboK7T mobo) and so I'm using the opportunity to updgrade to an Athlon XP 17000+ (which the board does support). Manufacturer code TY is unknown. I can't find any reference to KIBX1/KIZX1, which are presumably the model names.

No, you won't need to reload OS. You will need to reconfigure CMOS settings after you clear it though.

What model & manufacturer is your motherboard?

Are you sure you used the correct BIOS? Which one did you use?

Did you clear CMOS and load setup defaults after flashing?

I found evidence of an ECS K7AMA with the same chipset confusion as you. The board is listed as an Ali 1645 chipset on the ECS.tw page, but on this page, it's listed as a M1647 North Bridge, M1535D+ South Bridge.
