I am working on a PC for a friend and would like to update the BIOS. In order to find a newer BIOS, I need to determine the model number of this MoBo.

It is a PC-Chips MoBo as follows:
Form Factor: Baby AT
CPU Style: Slot-1
Chip Set: ALI Aladdin Pro II (M1621)
FSB Support: 66mhz / 100mhz
Card Slots: 4 PCI / 2 ISA / 1 AGP (2x)
Mem Slots: 3 SDRam
Riser Card: 2 USB, 1 IR, 1 PS2 Mouse
Label at Bottom of Last ISA Slot: 97L89154979
BIOS String: 61-0805-001437-00111111-ALI1621-725000-H (Release Date 08-05-1998) S

Denniss, thanks for the link.

The lottery brought up the M726 and M729, and this board is clearly not am M726. I was also able to verify the BIOS string for this board, at Plasma Online, as an M729. This has to be an M729

Now, PC-Chips has a BIOS upgrade for this board listed on there site (990224s.rom), but in the past, I have had problems with there BIOS files not working with the supplied Flash utility. At that time, I was directed to the Amptron version of that board and used there BIOS upgrade.

Does any one know if this is a good BIOS, what the release date is and which flash utility to use to install it, or if there is a similar board at AMPTRON that has a BIOS upgrade that will work on this board?

What problem are you trying to fix ?
Tested patched BIOSes. Untested patched BIOSes.

I have a Celeron 366 that has been running happily at 100fsb (550mhz) on an ABIT BH-6 mobo for well over a year. I am trying to run it on this board, and at 66FSB, the BIOS recognizes it correctly as running at 366mhz, but at 100mhz FSB, the BIOS recognizes it as running at 500mhz instead of 550mhz. Sandra 2001 shows it, correctly, as running at 550mhz.

This CPU seems to work perfectly on this M729 at 550mhz in Win98SE, but with Win2k it is somewhat buggy, in that it sometimes installs the OS properly, and sometimes does not. When the OS does get installed properly, it will then sometimes freeze during video driver install.

I have determined that the CD-Rom and PS were defective, and have replaced them both. The new PS is a generic 250 watt.

Win2K is more demanding than Win98(SE), especially because of its internal HLT instructions, which require more powerful voltage regulators.

You can either lower the clock speed a bit or search the internet for successful overclocking techniques, which cannot be discussed here.
