Use the BIOS AGENT on the main page to identify it, and post the results here.

Also note that when you refer to VIA this is most likely a chipset which the board is based on - not the actual board manufacturer.

But there was an other problem that I though would be solved with installing a new HD (and videocard)

The computer works perfectly, but when you stop working on it to grab some papers or go to the toilet the sreen goes black and nothing works anymore.

I would wait until Zida/Tomato comes back online. You might then be able to download a free BIOS upgrade that does all or some of those things you listed, or with luck at least the important things to you such as HDD support over 8GB.

I commonly experienced older PCs putting the monitor on standby and not being able to recover again without a reboot. This could likely be happening when you leave the PC for long enough. You can always configure Windows power management to not put the monitor to sleep (standby) at all.

Is your Windows ME installed with ACPI? And, BTW, please do check that HDD jumper.
