jumper set to allow flashin, doesnt seem to be any protection there after in any of the advanced chip settings.

Insert floppy with latest Award version, the copyed system files and updated bios k7vza32.e

... backup old bios, But then i dont get the option to update bios i get a message error instead saying 'cannot find source file'.

buggered if i know where im goin wrong..... and what is DOS mode anyway?

christ i think i may have it, Im not unzipping the new Bios file first am i

Well that was useless...

unzipped the bios i wanted, k7vza32e, extracted to floppy and carried on..... same result :x

... exact wording of the error is 'source file not found'

Obviously at this point im now officially looking for HELP!!!

anyone came across this or am i missin somethin in the updatin process?

any thread gratefully accepted

Thankyou

Entered k7vza32e.bin as filename for bios to be flashed ?
Have you read the FAQ from Wim's mainpage here ?

P.S. Latest Bios is 3.6a or a Beta/Servicebios from 4/2002

ok fair enough, if i understand this correctly

.. a typical line that i should enter would be

awd820a k7vza32e.bin, or would it be awd820a.exe k7va32e.bin

I know the latest version is 3.6 but i think itd make more sense to go thru each version in turn, although where did u find the Beta/Servicebios?

itll be a coupl of days b4 i get the opportunity to have a go but i will post high praise if successful

Cheers

It doesn't matter whether you put in ".exe"
If you just put in "awdxxx" it *should* prompt you for program file and save file names.
If you want to do it on the command line you will probably need to say
"awd820a k7vza32e.bin savebios.bin /sy /py" (save yes, program yes)

well im back and yes i did get a little further...

i didnt do the full command line as u suggested ( too chicken) but i did manage to input the correct AWARD and .bin however...

it has come up 'unknown flash type' when asked to program

at this point im really tempted to do the full command line as suggested and 'force' it to do it but id rather be sure im not missin anything else given the error warning.

im not givin up on this i want to learn rather than go bull at a gate

:D :D :D :D

well i did it, had to go to the american site for ECS for the solution 'dont reset the jumper' which gaurds the BIOS if u want to flash it, it must come set allowing u to.

followed the tips in ur FAQ and the advice regardin the .bin extension.

only had to reboot once after it asked for the 98 cd and thats that.

think now ill do each update in turn until v3.6

thanks all

There is no reason, nothing to be gained by going through each bios revision. Go directly to the latest version, unless there is a specific reason to use an earlier one. In any case go directly to the one you want. You are only making a lot more work for yourself and increasing the chance of a fatal error.

Look at the rev. no; check the ECS website: send ECS an e-mail.

I know the rev version is pcb 3, the site says bios version after 3.3 will support Athlon Xp, but ive also read on the usa site that this is a hardware solution for mobo built after week 40 not necessarily the BIOS, just thought something in the string might alude to the manufacture date... and as for an email - well im old enough as it is now without doin that lol!!

Ill try the email but i dont hold out much hope

... how are the druggies and down and outs enjoyin the sun up there??

They're prob loving it -- haven't been downtown for a couple of days. I'd post the question at Hardware Central -- likely more traffic there and def. a lot of ECS users.

Also worth trying trawling through/posting at newsgroup alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.elitegroup, they know all about this.

With XP support after week 40 I think they mean they switched production from KT-133(K7VZA Rev1) to KT-133A (K7VZA Rev 3) .
All K7VZA Rev3 support AthlonXP .
